What My Body Has Taught Me | Body Awareness & Wellbeing
My body has never felt separate from me, or something that I override with a mind-over-matter mentality.
I've always felt there is more to who we are than our physical form alone, and because of this, my body has always felt more like a friend.
Someone I check in with, catch up with, and quietly ask, "So, what's been going on?"
Through sensations, movement, energy, comfort, discomfort, and an inner knowing that is difficult to put into words, it is constantly sharing information.
Over the years, I've learned that this deep listening, following my body's side of the conversation, helps bring me back to what is true.
While my mind becomes caught in stories, beliefs, expectations, and possibilities, my body speaks much more simply. It helps me understand the deeper meaning of what is actually happening.
So, when I interrupt the ongoing brain train, or what sometimes feels more like a train wreck, and stop for a moment, it usually tells me exactly what I need to know.
One thing I've noticed throughout my life is that different parts of us don't always move at the same pace.
Sometimes the body is still responding to something long after the mind believes it has moved on.
Other times, the body has already adapted and changed while the mind is still expecting the issue to be there.
Our children don't grow physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially all at the same time. They go through growth spurts, then understanding catches up, then confidence, then another leap altogether.
We, as adults, continue to develop in much the same way throughout our lives.
Different parts of ourselves seem to come to understanding, acceptance, and change in their own time.
Many bodyworkers refer to this as "the issues are in the tissues."
Over the years I've also noticed that some experiences seem to remain held within the body long after the event itself has passed.
An old injury, a difficult experience, or a significant period in our lives may be long gone, yet a part of the body can still appear to be responding as though it belongs to another time.
I've often seen this around old injuries. Someone may have broken a leg as a child, yet years later that part of the body can still feel as though it is carrying a different age or experience to the rest of them.
As awareness is brought to these areas, and the body is given an opportunity to respond, release, and reconnect, something often begins to shift.
Long before I became an Ortho-Bionomy® Practitioner, I was fascinated by the body's ability to adapt, respond, and find balance when given the right conditions and support.
From 2007 to 2018, I worked as an Ortho-Bionomy® Practitioner and later as an Advanced Practitioner. Those years deepened my appreciation for the body's own intelligence and timing.
The work respected the body's process.
That philosophy made complete sense to me because it reflected how I had already experienced myself and the world around me.
As my awareness deepened, so did my work.
Today, this understanding flows through my Integrative Energy Sessions.
No two sessions are ever the same.
Rather than following a set formula, I follow what is presenting and what may be most supportive in that moment.
The tools and language have changed over the years, but the foundation has remained remarkably consistent.
Listening.
Observing.
Following what is presenting.
Trusting the wisdom of the body.
