Seasonal Energy Shifts | Why You Might Be Feeling Different Lately
Lately, I’ve been noticing how many people are quietly going through deeper transformations during these seasonal energy shifts, equinox energies.
Not always in huge dramatic ways.
But in subtle little awarenesses.
Wanting quieter mornings.
Feeling more emotional than usual.
Pulling back from noise or constant conversation.
Needing more rest.
Craving warmth, slower movement, nourishing food, or more time at home.
Feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or unsure why life suddenly feels heavier than usual.
And here in NZ, in the southern hemisphere, I can feel the seasons beginning to shift.
Sometimes it feels to me as though Gaia has stood up, lifted her skirts, then quietly sat back down again — sending ripples through nature, through our nervous systems, and through our emotional and mental patterns.
Seasonal Energy Shifts and the Nervous System
The body often notices the shift before the mind fully catches up.
And what can seem like tiredness, irritation, emotional overwhelm, overstimulation, or withdrawal can sometimes simply be your system asking for a different rhythm for a while.
I’ve noticed this within myself, too.
Even simple things like diet, conscious movement, creativity, rest, emotions, and the way I spend my time seem to shift naturally through different seasons.
I’ve found myself slowing into softer rhythms.
Making soup and sourdough bread.
Knitting baby jackets.
Spending quieter time at home.
Moving my body differently.
Listening more closely to what actually feels nourishing instead of trying to keep up with old routines.
What works easily in summer doesn’t always feel supportive during these slower seasonal shifts.
And I think many people become frustrated with themselves here — trying to function the same way year-round instead of recognizing that our bodies, emotions, nervous systems, and energy naturally move in cycles.
These seasonal energy shifts can affect us far more deeply than we sometimes realize.
You may have noticed lately:
needing more sleep
becoming more sensitive to noise or people
wanting space from social media or constant stimulation
feeling emotions surface more easily
craving nature or quieter environments
finding your home either deeply comforting… or strangely overwhelming
feeling like you need a reset but not knowing exactly why
These seasonal energy shifts are often more natural than we realize.
Nature doesn’t force constant expansion year-round.
There are seasons for growth.
Seasons for gathering.
Seasons for reflection.
And seasons that quietly ask us to come back to ourselves again.
One thing I’ve learned over time is that the quieter seasons often reveal what the busier seasons helped us avoid.
Once life slows down, we begin hearing ourselves more clearly.
The body speaks louder.
The nervous system speaks louder.
The emotions we’ve pushed aside often rise to the surface, asking for attention.
And sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is stop fighting the season we’re in.
Not everything needs fixing immediately.
Sometimes we simply need:
more warmth
more grounding practices
softer routines
supportive spaces
less pressure
less noise
more presence
This is also why creating calm at home through simple supportive rituals becomes so important during seasonal transitions.
Your environment either supports your nervous system… or adds to the noise and overstimulation.
A personal thing I’ve been noticing lately is searching for spaces in my home that offer comfort and needing brief but frequent quiet moments throughout the day.
I love sitting on Sacha’s bed in the mid-morning sun, with toast and tea or sometimes just a cup of hot water, tuning into her Beings, feeling her as though she’s right there with me.
I find myself thinking about what we’d chat about, what we’d share, or simply drifting away in memories — feeling her light gently around me.
Since losing Sacha, these quieter moments have been fleeting, but when I do settle into them…
They remind me how healing it can be to slow down enough to truly feel what’s around us, what’s within us, and the connections that continue to support us in unseen ways.
Sometimes these quieter seasonal energy shifts gently bring us back to those spaces.
Not to withdraw from life, but to reconnect with what matters most.
I notice it with Natasha too.
She’ll often retreat quietly to her room with her colouring, the pōhutukawa tree outside her window holding its steady presence beside her.
Even from a young age, Natasha has always carried a very natural connection with the Earth and the unseen rhythms moving through nature.
Not something she speaks about often.
Simply something she lives.
As she slows down into those quieter, more creative moments, the land itself begins to restore and replenish through her.
Afterwards she always feels clearer.
Lighter.
More grounded within herself again.
Nature’s rhythms have a way of drawing sensitive people back into deeper connection with nature itself and the Earth, whether they fully realise it or not.
The more I pay attention to these seasonal shifts, the more I flow easier with myself instead of against myself.
I find myself naturally reconnecting with Gaia, Mother Earth, Papatūānuku — slowing down enough to feel supported by the rhythms already happening around me.
And the more I listen to what my body and energy are asking for, the easier life begins to feel.
Not perfect.
Not effortless.
Just more connected.
More grounded.
More present.
Maybe this season isn’t asking you to push harder.
Maybe it’s simply asking you to listen differently.
